Italian senator Barani calls for lifting of Egypt travel warning

Italian Senator Lucio Barani, who heads the Liberal Popular Alliance party, has openly criticized the Italian Foreign Ministry's recent decision to issue a travel warning for Egypt, calling for it to be lifted.

Barani made the comments at a Cairo press conference on Sunday as part of his visit to Egypt with an Italian delegation of politicians and businessmen seeking to improve relations between the two nations.

The delegation met with the Egyptian European Business Council, headed by Mohamed Aboul Enein, for discussions on the return to normal diplomatic and business relations in the wake of the much-publicized murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni earlier this year.


Barani urged the Italian Foreign Ministry to remove its travel warning for Egypt, insisting that Egypt is not an "unsafe" country. He pointed out that the Italian foreign minister and his son are currently in Egypt and can therefore attest to how safe it is.

The Italian senator also commented on the ongoing investigation into the Regeni case, saying that he has kept a close eye on developments over the past few months. He said that he is happy with the Egyptian government’s efforts to move the investigation along, stressing his confidence in the Egyptian government's efforts to identify the true culprits.

The Italian senator went further, saying that, in his view, the Egyptian government “far from being involved” in Regeni’s death. In April, the senator said the murder was the work of forces seeking to destroy relations between Egypt and Italy, according to the Middle East News Agency.

Regeni, a graduate student at Cambridge University, disappeared on January 25, his dead body found in early February by the side of the Cairo-Alexandria desert road. His body showed signs of severe torture, sparking speculation that he may have been killed by Egyptian security services. The Egyptian government has denied the involvement of its security servces and vowed to find the true culprits.

Relations between the two countries have deteriorated since then, and last month the Italian Senate voted to stop supplying Egypt with spare parts for their F-16 warplanes. In April, Italy summoned its ambassador back to Rome to discuss the Regeni case.

Barani said he does not condone Italy’s behavior regarding the Regeni case and remains openly critical of it.

Aboul Enein said that this visit from Italian officials was co-ordinated with friendly sentiments and that he greatly appreciates Barani’s apparent love for Egypt and its culture and for his cooperation to make this conference happen.

Aboul Enein said the aim of the visit is to counteract some of the false information currently circulating regarding the security situation in Egypt. He said that Egypt is safe and secure, contrary to the impression given on social media and through news media.

نبذة تاريخية العربية للطيران


يرجع تاريخ إنشاء العربية للطيران إلى فبراير 2003، وبدأت عملياتها رسمياً في 28 أكتوبر 2003، وقد شكلت الشركة بمرسوم أميري أصدره الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي، وأصبحت بذلك ثالث ناقل وطني بالإمارات العربية المتحدة، وأول شركة طيران منخفضه التكاليف في منطقة الشرق الأوسط. وقامت الشركة بطرح 55% من أسهمها للاكتتاب العام وذلك في أوائل عام 2007. وتمتلك إدارة الطيران المدني في الشارقة حوالي 60٪ من أسهمها في حين تمتلك سلطة مطار الشارقة حوالي 40٪ من رأس المال.

في 3 نوفمبر 2008 أعلنت العربية للطيران عن إطلاقها لمركز عملياتها الثاني في المغرب، وتم إنشاء شركة جديدة تابعة للعربية للطيران تسمى "العربية للطيران المغرب"، وتتخذ الشركة الجديدة من مطار محمد الخامس الدولي بمدينة الدار البيضاء مركزاً لعملياتها، وتعد الشركة الجديدة مشروع مشترك بين العربية للطيران والخطوط الجوية المغربية وبنك إثمار البحريني، وتقوم العربية للطيران بإدارة وتطبيق نموذج الطيران الاقتصادي الذي تعتمده في الشركة الجديدة.

مصر

في 9 سبتمبر 2009 أعلنت العربية للطيران عن إطلاقها لمركز عملياتها الثالث في مصر، وقد تم إنشاء شركة طيران اقتصادي جديد تابعة للعربية للطيران تسمى "العربية للطيران مصر"، العربية للطيران مصر ستكون شراكة بين شركة العربية للطيران ومجموعة ترافكو للسياحة والفنادق، وستتملك العربية للطيران نسبة 40% من رأس مال الشركة، تتخذ الشركة من الإسكندرية مقرا لها، ومن مطار برج العرب الدولي مركزاً لعملياتها، وستساهم في نمو قطاع السياحة والسفر في مصر والمنطقة وخدمة اسواق أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا، وسيكون مركز العمليات الجديد حلقة وصل بين مركزي العربية في الشارقة والدار البيضاء.

نبذة تاريخية الخطوط السعودية

يرجع تاريخ تأسيس الخطوط الجوية العربية السعودية إلى يوم 15 جمادى الآخرة من عام 1365هـ 27 مايو 1945م ، وذلك حينما قام الرئيس الأمريكي فرانكلين روزفلت بإهداء طائرة واحدة من طراز دوغلاس دي سي-3 إلى الملك الملك عبد العزيز لتبدأ خدمتها بين مدينتي جدة على الساحل الغربي والظهران على الساحل الشرقي، كانت رحلتها الدولية الأولى إلى مدينة دمشق في 10 يونيو 1945. في ذلك العام أفتتح أول مطار رسمي في السعودية في مدينة جدة

-- وخلال الأربعينات توسعت الشركة لتخدم وجهات دولية جديدة منها القاهرة، بيروت واللد في ما كان آنذاك "أراضي فلسطينية" تحت الانتداب البريطاني.
-- وتم تشغيل رحلات جوية داخل المملكة وإلى بعض المحطات الإقليمية مثل القاهرة، دمشق، وبيروت.


وفي الخمسينات أضافت الشركة عدة مدن إلى خارطتها ومنها إسطنبول، كراتشي، عمان، مدينة الكويت، أسمرة وبورت سودان،
وقامت بشراء أربع طائرات جديدة ومن نوع "دي سي 4" وعشر طائرات من نوع "كونفير 340"،

-- في سبعينات القرن الماضي تم تغير الاسم التشغيلي إلى السعودية، وتم تغيير شعارها وتم شراء المزيد من طائرات بوينغ 747 و737 وكذلك طائرت الترايستار ال 1011 من لوكهيد وافتتحت المزيد من الوجهات خاصة في أوروبا والولايات المتحدة. وفي الثمانينات أضافت الشركة خدمات التموين. مما يذكر أن طيران السعودية هو الوحيد الذي يطير فوق أربع قارات في نفس الرحلة وذلك حين تطير الطائرة من جدة عابرة آسيا، أفريقيا، أوروبا إلى أمريكا الشمالية لتهبط في نيويورك.
-- في التسعينات منع التدخين على متن رحلات الشركة في جميع الرحلات الداخلية والدولية وغيرت الشركة شعارهاعام 1997.
-- وفي بداية الألفية الجديدة بدأت الشركة التهيئة لخصخصتها وحققت أول أرباح تشغيلية لها في 2002.

-- في 15 يونيو 2015، أعلنت شركة ايرباص في بيان صحفي بأن الخطوط الجوية العربية السعودية، تقدمت لشراء 50 طائرة ايرباص، 20 طائرة منها من طراز (A330-300) الإقليمية الجديدة، لتكون السعودية أول شركة طيران في العالم تشغل طائرة هذا الطراز الحديث، و 30 من طراز (A320ceo). وستضاف هذه الطائرات إلى أسطوات ايرباص الحالي والذي تشغلة الخطوط السعودية والمكون من 12 طائرة من طراز إيرباص إيه 330 و 50 طائرة من طراز إيرباص إيه 320 بفئتيها 320 و321، ليصبح عدد طائرات إيرباص المشغل من قبل الخطوط السعودية 112 طائرة.

Saudia (Arabic: السعودية‎ as-Saʿūdiyyah), legally Saudi Arabian Airlines (الخطوط الجوية العربية السعودية), is the flag carrier airline of Saudi Arabia, based in Jeddah. The airline's main operational base is at Jeddah-King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). When U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt presented a Douglas DC-3 as a gift to King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud in 1945, the event marked the Kingdom's gradual development of civil aviation. The nation's flag carrier, Saudia, was founded as Saudi Arabian Airlines in September 1945 as a fully owned government agency under the control of the Ministry of Defense, with TWA running the airline under a management contract.

From the beginning, Jeddah-Kandara airport—very near the town center-served as the flag carrier's main base. Among the airline's early operations was a special flight from Lydda in Palestine (today Lod in Israel, site of Ben-Gurion International Airport), a British Mandate at that time, to carry Hajj pilgrims to Jeddah. The airline used five DC-3 aircraft to launch scheduled operations on the Jeddah-Riyadh-Hofuf-Dhahran route in March 1947, followed by its first international service between Jeddah and Cairo also in that same month. Service to Damascus and Beirut followed in early 1948. The following year saw the first of five Bristol 170s being received. These aircraft offered the airline the flexibility of carrying both passengers and cargo.

The slow but steady growth continued during the 1950s and services were inaugurated to Istanbul, Karachi, Amman, Kuwait City, Asmara, and Port Sudan. The fleet also saw a small growth during the 1950s, with five DC-4s and ten Convair 340s, the first pressurized aircraft for the airline. In 1959, the airline's first maintenance center was inaugurated in Jeddah. Also during this decade, the very important air link between Jeddah and Riyadh saw improvement.

In 1962, the airline took delivery of two Boeing 720s, becoming the third Middle Eastern airline to fly jet aircraft, after Cyprus Airways with the de Havilland Comet in 1960 and El Al with the Boeing 707 in 1961. On 19 February 1963, the airline became a registered company, with King Faisal of Saudi Arabia signing the papers that declared Saudia a fully independent company. DC-6s and Boeing 707s were later bought, and the airline joined the AACO, the Arab Air Carriers Organization. Services were started to Sharjah, Tehran, Khartoum, Bombay, Tripoli, Tunis, Rabat, Geneva, Frankfurt, and London.

In the 1970s, a new livery was introduced. The carrier's name was changed to Saudia on 1 April 1972. Boeing 737 and Fokker F-28 equipment was bought, with the 737s replacing the Douglas DC-9. The first all-cargo flights between Saudi Arabia and Europe were started, and Lockheed L-1011s and Fairchild FH-27s were introduced. New services, including the Arabian Express 'no reservation shuttle flights' between Jeddah and Riyadh. The Special Flight Services (SFS) was set up as a special unit of Saudia, and operates special flights for the Royal family and government agencies. Service was also started to Rome, Paris, Muscat, Kano, and Stockholm. The Pan Am/Saudia joint service between Dhahran and New York City started on 3 February 1979.

Some services opened during the 1980s for the airline, such as Saudia Catering. Flights were started to Athens, Bangkok, Dhaka, Mogadishu, Nairobi, New York City, Madrid, Singapore, Manila, Delhi, Islamabad, Seoul, Baghdad, Amsterdam, Colombo, Nice, Lahore, Brussels, Dakar, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei. Horizon Class, a business class service, was established to offer enhanced service to passengers. Cargo hubs were built at Brussels and Taipei. Airbus A300s, Boeing 747s, and Cessna Citations were also added to the fleet, the Citations for the SFS service. To conclude the decade, services were introduced in 1989 to Larnaca and Addis Ababa. On July 1, 1982, the first nonstop service was inaugurated from Jeddah to New York with the airline's Boeing 747SP aircraft. This service, along with the Riyadh-New York service introduced later.

In the 1990s, services were introduced to Orlando, Chennai, Asmara, Washington, D.C., Johannesburg, Alexandria, Milan, Málaga (seasonal), and Sanaa (resumption). Boeing 777s, MD-90s and MD-11s were introduced. New female flight attendant uniforms designed by Adnan Akbar were introduced. A new corporate identity was launched on 16 July 1996, featuring a sand colored fuselage with contrasting dark blue tailfin, the center of which featured a stylized representation of the House of Saud crest. The Saudia name was dropped in the identity revamp, with Saudi Arabian Airlines name used.

On 8 October 2000, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Saudi Minister of Defense and Aviation, signed a contract to conduct studies for the privatization of Saudi Arabian Airlines. In preparation for this, the airline was restructured to allow non-core units—including Saudia catering, ground handling services and maintenance as well as the Prince Sultan Flight Academy in Jeddah—to be transformed into commercial units and profit centers. In April 2005, the Saudi government indicated that the airline may also lose its monopoly on domestic services.

Saudi Arabian Airlines did achieve operational profits in 2002, which doubled in 2003, but the profits were primarily due to over one billion riyals on deferred income amortised annually in the income statement, courtesy of the 70 aircraft gifted to the airline by the Saudi government. In 2004, the airline carried over 15 million passengers and recorded a 14% rise in profits. In April the following year the airline ordered 15 Embraer E-170LR aircraft in a deal worth $400 million.

In 2006, Saudia began the process of dividing itself into Strategic Business Units (SBU); the catering unit was the first to be privatized. In August 2007, Saudi Arabia's Council of Ministers approved the conversion of strategic units into companies. It is planned that ground services, technical services, air cargo and the Prince Sultan Aviation Academy, medical division, as well as the catering unit, will become subsidiaries of a holding company.

The airline reverted to its abbreviated English brand name Saudia (used from 1972 to 1996) from Saudi Arabian Airlines (historic name in use until 1971 and reintroduced in 1997) on 29 May 2012; the name was changed to celebrate the company's entry into the SkyTeam airline alliance on that day, and it was a part of a larger rebranding initiative.

Saudia received 64 new airplanes by the end of 2012, 6 Boeing airplanes and 58 Airbus airplanes. Another 8 Boeing 787-9 aircraft will join the fleet of Saudia in 2015.

The airline began operations on 29 April 2005 with a flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Abu Dhabi. Air Arabia Egypt

Air Arabia Egypt (2010–present) - On 9 September 2009, Air Arabia announced Air Arabia Egypt as a joint venture with Egyptian travel and tourism company Travco Group to be based in Alexandria, Egypt. The airline received its operating license on 22 May 2010, with commercial flights beginning 1 June 2010. The fleet in Egypt consists of three aircraft, two operating a scheduled service and one carrying charter traffic from Europe to the Red Sea.

Air Arabia Jordan

Air Arabia Jordan (TBA) - On 7 June 2010, Air Arabia announced that they had signed a deal with Tantash Group to form Air Arabia Jordan which will be based in Amman, Jordan. The proposed airline will operate flights from Queen Alia International Airport to Europe, Middle East and North Africa. On 14 June 2011 the airline announced it was delaying plans to establish a hub in the country amid regional unrest and soaring fuel costs.

In January 2015 Air Arabia announced the acquisition of a 49% stake in Petra Airlines. The principal shareholder of Petra Airlines, the RUM Group, retain a 51% stake in the airline, which will be rebranded as Air Arabia Jordan in early 2015. It will initially operate 2 Airbus A320 aircraft and there are plans to develop a new hub in Amman. First flights of this new airline will take place during week commencing 18 May 2015, with launch destinations being Kuwait, Sham el Shiekh, Erbil, and Jeddah.

Air Arabia Maroc (2009–present) - Air Arabia, in a joint venture with Moroccan investors established Air Arabia Maroc and set up a secondary base in Morocco's largest city, Casablanca; it began operations on 6 May 2009, allowing them to expand into Europe and Africa.

The Maroc fleet consists of four aircraft serving mainly European destinations.

Nepal

Fly Yeti (2007–2008) - In 2007, Air Arabia opened a base in Nepal's capital Kathmandu to serve Asia and the Middle East, with the signing of a joint venture agreement with Yeti Airlines, establishing a low-cost carrier, called Fly Yeti that provided service to an international destinations. Due to the uncertain political and economic situation prevailing in Nepal and lack of local government support, FlyYeti operations were suspended in 2008.

As of March 2015, the Air Arabia fleet consists of the following aircraft, with an average age of 3.1 years, which are all equipped with 162/168 passenger seats in an all-economy class cabin layout. The airlines operates a fleet entirely of A320s and has one of the youngest fleets in the world. Back in 2007 the airlines ordered 44 A320s as part of its expansion plan to be completed by 2016 in order to double its fleet to more than 50 aircraft. In 2014, Air Arabia and Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) signed an aircraft financing deal to facilitate the delivery of six new Airbus A320 aircraft in 2015. The US$230 million Ijara facility will finance the delivery of a new aircraft every two months starting January 2015, the program culminating with the final unit being handed over by the end of the year.

Dubai International Airport Masterplan

Dubai's government has announced the construction of a new airport in Jebel Ali, named Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International Airport. It is expected to be the second largest airport in the world by physical size, though not by passenger metrics. It opened 27 June 2010, however, construction is not expected to finish until 2017. Dubai International airport is expected to be able to accommodate up to 160 million passengers.

There has been an official plan to build the Dubai Metro Purple Line to connect Al Maktoum International Airport to Dubai International Airport; construction was set to begin in 2012. Since then, there have been rumours that the Purple Line is being postponed or even cancelled.
